The tread on the bottom of these shoes is reminiscent of those old bike pedals in the 80's that would take off shin and ankle skin. That being said, they are bad@$$ for trail running or hiking. You aren't going to slip wearing these! I was hoping for more arch support, but they would be very accommodating to those that don't have high arches like I do. I get so many compliments on the shoes; which surprised me. I'm not accustomed to people liking my tennis shoes...
