When I say they are somewhat large, I really feel it has to do with the shoe style not the actual sizing. I have a pair of women's that are the lined ones of the same size and they are a touch narrower in the toe box and the lining makes them feel a tiny bit more snug all around. They probably are true and I'm just used to the other style. Other than that, they are great, what I expected and the color is nice and deep. They are Vans so if you know the brand, you know what you'll get. They are more comfortable than chucks because of the cushioning in the sole (my whole family wear both) and maybe offer a little more support. They are interchangeable in our wardrobes, but we do find Vans the choice if we're going to do any distance walking. I've been wearing them for over 20 years...half my life, and am still happy with the shoes and I really enjoy the colors and designs.
